Krishnappa Gowtham scored a whirlwind 33 of 11 balls to take Rajasthan Royals to victory in yet another last over finish against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, 22 April.
Gowtham walked in to bat in the 18th over with the Royals needing 43 runs of 17 balls to win. Jasprit Bumrah was at his best in the death and Mustafizur was bowling economically too. It seemed that Rajasthan had their task cut out if they had to get over the finish line.
However, Gowtham made it look ridiculously easy for the home side. After scoring a six and a four a piece in Mustazfizur’s 18th over, he smashed Bumrah for two boundaries in the following over. With 10 needed of the final over, he took Hardik Pandya to the cleaners and ensured that there were no further hiccups in the Royals’ chase.
Rajasthan romped home with two balls to spare.
This was Mumbai’s fourth last-over defeat in the tournament.
Gowtham was bought by the Rajasthan Royals for 6.2 crore in the auction.
Twitterati showered their appreciation on Gowtham and hailed his heroics.
