Rohit Sharma may have smashed three double centuries in ODI cricket but the one against Sri Lanka on Wednesday, 13 December – scored as India's captain – will probably be the one he cherishes the most.
With his wife watching from the stands, the 30-year-old opener scored an unbeaten 208 in 153 balls on his second wedding anniversary. With this, he has become the first-ever cricketer to score three double centuries.
His wife Ritika was seen in the stands nervously cheering on each as Sharma scored the boundaries and sixes, eventually tearing up when he got to the landmark.
Rohit Sharma dedicated his third double century to his wife Ritika Sajdeh.
I’m happy my wife is here with me on this special day. I know she would have liked this gift from me. She has been my strength. She has always been there for me. You go through so much stress in this sport, and having them around is always special.Rohit Sharma
"This is our second anniversary, but more than that, we won the game. We were determined to do the right things in the middle, and right till the end we did that. As a group, we are looking forward to Vizag," he said.
Earlier, when he scored a century, Rohit had kissed his ring finger and look into the stands where his wife was seated.
Ritika too posted a picture from the couple’s wedding day in December 2015, with a caption that said, “Two down, forever to go”.
