Former IPL Chairman Rajeev Shukla on Monday confirmed that Sourav Ganguly had been selected as the president of the Indian cricket board, but said that the final announcement would be made on 23 October by the electoral officer.

“Barring one or two, majority of the cricket associations have nominated Sourav Ganguly as the BCCI president, Jay Shah as the secretary, Mahim Verma as vice-president, Jayesh George as joint secretary, Arun Dhumal as treasurer and Brijesh Patel as IPL Chairman,” said Shukla.

Ganguly and team were in for a shock on Monday when they entered the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) HQ in Mumbai to file the nominations for the various posts of office bearers as Electoral Officer N. Gopalaswami was absent. He was not in office till 3 p.m. forcing the team to hand over the nomination papers to the legal team of the BCCI.

On Sunday, in a dramatic turn of events, former India captain Ganguly emerged as consensus candidate to be BCCI's new President after Brijesh Patel appeared to have grabbed the coveted post.

Ganguly too was intrigued by how the board room politics worked. “I didn’t know I would be the President when I came down. You (reporter) asked me and I told you it’s Brijesh and when I went up and I came to know it has changed,” he said on Monday.
