Pakistan’s opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad sustained a horrific neck injury in the second T20 match against West Indies in Port of Spain on Thursday.

During West Indies’ innings, Shehzad collided with Chadwick Walton and hurt his neck, while trying to save a single. The 25-year-old fell to the ground after the collision and was quickly rushed off the field.

While the injury appeared to be serious, Shehzad came back on the field before the end of the 11th over. He was out of the game for less than six overs.

“Initially, he (Shehzad) showed concussion signs and pain within the neck. Ahmed returned from hospital after imaging found nothing wrong with his spine,” Shane Hayes, Pakistan’s physiotherapist, told ESPNcricinfo.

Pakistan eventually managed to take a 2-0 lead in the four-match T20 series with a three-run victory.

Leg-spinner Shadab Khan’s excellent bowling effort which reaped figures of four wickets for 14 runs, helped Pakistan defend a low total of 132 runs. The third T20 match will be also played in Port of Spain on Saturday.
