Former Pakistan opening batsman Nasir Jamshed has been banned for 10 years by an anti-corruption tribunal for his involvement in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case, Pakistan cricket board said on Friday, 17 August, according to Reuters.
The 27-year-old, who played 40 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Pakistan, was arrested in the UK in February 2017 and released on bail after the corruption scandal of the T20 tournament broke out.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had banned Jamshed for a year in December 2017 after finding him guilty of non-cooperation in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) spot-fixing case.
The tribunal has reached the verdict that the PCB’s multiple charges against Nasir Jamshed have been proved and he was banned for 10 years. He will not be allowed to be involved with cricket or cricket administration even after his period of ban is over.Taffazul Rizvi, PCB’s Legal Advisor
Jamshed didn’t take part in the first two seasons of the Pakistan Super League but allegedly played a big role in the spot-fixing scandal that took place in 2017.
Batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been banned for five years for their part in the spot-fixing scandal. Fast bowler Mohammad Irfan and all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz have been suspended for 12 and 2 months respectively.
