The Sunrisers Hyderabad successfully defended a low total once again, this time against Kings XI Punjab in Hyderabad on Thursday. After being put into bat at the toss, the Hyderabad team barely made it to 132/6 in their 20 overs. Manish Pandey anchored the innings from the third over to the final over of the innings with a 51-ball 54-run innings.
KL Rahul and Chris Gayle got Punjab off to a great start with 55 runs in 7.4 overs before the former was dismissed by Rashid Khan.
Thereafter, Punjab kept losing wickets at regular intervals and eventually were bundled out for 119 runs. Rashid Khan was the pick of the bowlers for the Sunrisers Hyderabad with figures of 3/19. The Orange Army won the match by 13 runs.
Here’s a look at three big stats from the match.
Manish Pandey came into bat when the Sunrisers Hyderabad were in a very precarious situation. The right-hand batsman had to steady the ship when SRH’s best batsmen Kane Williamson and Shikhar Dhawan were back in the hut in the third over with just 16 runs on the board.
Manish Pandey held the innings together with a calculative innings, but he equaled Dhawan’s record for the slowest fifty by an SRH batsman in the IPL.
Kings XI Punjab’s Ankit Rajpoot rattled the Sunrisers Hyderabad top order in the first five overs of the match. The fast bowler dismissed Kane Williamson, Shikhar Dhawan and Wriddhiman Saha to reduce SRH to 27/3 in 4.5 overs.
He came back later in the innings to take the wickets of Manish Pandey and Mohammad Nabi. The 24-year-old recorded his best figures in T20 cricket.
Ankit Rajpoot not only recorded his best figures in T20 cricket, but also went past Dimitri Mascarenhas’ record for best figures recorded by a Kings XI Punjab bowler in the Indian Premier League.
