The Indian Premier League is usually known for the big sixes, but some brilliant catches have always been taken in all seasons.
Even in this year, Royal Challengers Bangalore’s AB de Villiers leapt like a Spider-Man in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils’ Trent Boult held onto a stunner at the boundary rope against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
As we get closer to the end of the tournament, here’s a look at the top five catches from IPL 2018.
1. AB de Villiers vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Alex Hales was looking in good touch at 37 runs off 23 balls until he was denied a six by the Spider-Man AB de Villiers. When Hales struck Moeen Ali over mid-wicket, de Villiers leaped and snatched the ball mid-air to complete a terrific catch!
2. Trent Boult vs Royal Challengers Bangalore
Virat Kohli smashed a full toss on his pads off Harshal Patel’s delivery towards deep square, only to be stopped by Delhi Daredevils’ Trent Boult. The New Zealand player dived to his right near the boundary line, fell on his stomach and held himself back just before touching the boundary rope.
It was simply extraordinary!
3. Hardik Pandya vs Delhi Daredevils
After Glenn Maxwell struck a ball off Krunal Pandya in the off-side, Hardik Pandya ran a lot of distance and then dived full length to grab the ball with both hands.
Pandya sent Maxwell packing in the 14th over. Unfortunately, Maxwell’s was the last wicket for Mumbai Indians in that match and therefore they lost by 7 wickets.
4. Tiwary/Agarwal vs Rajasthan Royals
Ben Stokes hit Mujeeb Ur Rahman towards the long-on boundary. Mayank Agarwal managed to hold onto the catch, but realised he is going to cross the boundary. He sees Manoj Tiwary and throws the ball to him.
Manoj Tiwary has no problems in completing the catch.
5. Sanju Samson vs Mumbai Indians
Hardik Pandya was looking to end Mumbai Indians’ innings with a big flourish, but Sanju Samson had other ideas. As Pandya hit a delivery off Ben Stokes towards the mid-wicket region, Samson started running towards his right.
Samson dived forward and pulled off a brilliant catch in the last over of the innings.
