The BCCI selection committee headed by MSK Prasad announced the Indian squads for their upcoming tour to West Indies. The Indians will first play the limited-overs series – three T20Is and three ODIs – between 3 August and 14 August, before starting their campaign in the Test championship with two Tests in Antigua and Jamaica.

Seven players from the India A squad were included in the Indian team for the upcoming series. Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Washington Sundar, Khaleel Ahmed, Navdeep Saini, Deepak Chahar and Rahul Chahar made it to the ODI and T20I squads.

While there were some key names missing, one that stood out was that of Shubman Gill who was also a part of the India A team which recently played a five-match ODI series against the Windies.

Gill was in fine form in the series scoring 218 runs at an average of 54.50 which also included three half-centuries. Despite his good form, Gill did not find a place in even one of the squads.

The Punjab cricketer shared his thoughts on his non-selection to Cricketnext.

“I was waiting for the Indian senior team to be announced on Sunday and I expected to be selected for at least one of the squads”.

"It was disappointing not to get picked but I am not going to spend time thinking over it. I'll keep scoring runs and performing to the best of my ability to impress the selectors," Gill added further.

Meanwhile, chief selector MSK Prasad said in the press conference on Sunday that he is in the waiting list as of now.

“Shubman Gill went to New Zealand when KL Rahul was suspended. Now he is in the waiting list. Definitely, he will be considered. He was there in the scheme of things.”

Gill made his ODI debut for India earlier this year against New Zealand, playing the fourth and the fifth matches.
