The Andhra Cricket Association will support children with heart disease and will campaign for them during the India-Sri Lanka One Day International match at Vizag, on 17 December, BCCI Senior Selection Chairman MSK Prasad said on Thursday, 14 December.

The statement from MSK Prasad came after surgeons from Andhra Hospitals performed a 16-hour surgery to save the life of a 10-day-old baby girl suffering from a rare and complicated heart disease, The Hindu reported.

A team of specialists from Andhra Hospitals worked with Healing Little Hearts, a UK-based foundation that provides free heart surgery to babies and children, to save the baby's life.

Now the girl child has been shifted to a paediatric cardiac ICU. She was on ventilator for six days. She is feeding well now and gaining weight. She is ready for discharge.

The BCCI Senior Selection Chairman said that the Andhra Cricket Association would campaign to raise support for children with heart disease at the Vizag ODI as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative.

He added that messages would be beamed on the big screen in the stadium, to generate awareness and support for the cause.
