England’s Ben Stokes is stealing the show so far at the IPL 2017 auction. With big players like Martin Guptill and Jason Roy going unsold, the English allrounder was sold for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore to the Rising Pune Supergiants.
First, Delhi Daredevils and Mumbai Indians got into a bidding war until both of them left the fight at Rs 12.5 crore before, Rising Pune Supergiants stepped in at Rs 13 crore and bought him for the biggest price in the first set of the auctions.
Ben Stokes has become the most expensive foreign player in IPL history.
Pune got a big fish in Stokes, but they have only Rs 3 crore left in their kitty. We will have to wait and see how smartly they utilise the rest of their money.
During the first set of the auctions, English players such as Jason Roy and Alex Hales went unsold, but their T20 captain Eoin Morgan was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 2 crore.
Pawan Negi is the only Indian player sold in the auction so far. He was bought for Rs 1 crore by the Kings XI Punjab.
New Zealand’s Martin Guptill, India’s Faiz Fazal, England’s Alex Hales, New Zealand’s Ross Taylor, India’s Saurabh Tiwary, Irfan Pathan, South Africa’s Sean Abbott and England’s Chris Jordan went unsold.
The Delhi Daredevils scalped Corey Anderson and Angelo Mathews for Rs 1 crore and Rs 2 crore each.
