The Quint caught up with Commonwealth Games gold medallist Ashwini Ponnappa at the Premier Badminton League auction in New Delhi on Monday. Ponnappa spoke about the combination of her team Awadhe Warriors and the effect of PBL in India.

“(We have some good players such as) Son Wan Ho, Beiwen Zhang and Mathias Christiansen. I am definitely looking forward to playing with Mathias in the mixed doubles. Lee Yang is really good as well. So we have got a lot of good players on board and definitely we are going to have a lot of good matches.”

The 29-year-old expressed that the PBL has helped all players improve their game.

“The good thing is we have a lot of high level matches being played in the country. As players we also get to learn a lot from each other. To be part of a team, play some great matches, which definitely help us grow as players. The youngsters get to learn a lot in this tournament. Since the tournament is played in different cities, badminton fans get to witness a lot of high class and top quality matches.”
