The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to accept some of the Lodha Committee recommendations at the Special General Meeting (SGM) in Mumbai on Saturday.

But they have not accepted the formation of a three-member selection panel, committee’s recommendation of one state, one vote and the suggestion of age limit (70 years) for the office bearers.

The BCCI had appointed a five-member selection committee on 21 October. Former wicketkeeper-batsman MSK Prasad has been named the head of the committee. The selection panel comprises of two members with no Test experience, which is against the Lodha guidelines.

And at the moment, the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) and the Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) have more than one vote in the BCCI.

The BCCI have accepted the guidelines at the SGM four days after the Lodha Committee submitted their status report to the Supreme Court.

In the report, Justice Lodha’s committee had asked for the sacking of the entire top brass of the board due to non compliance of their guidelines.

The guidelines which were accepted by the BCCI include:

  • The induction of representative of CAG as the member of the Apex Council as well as the IPL Governing Council.
  • Formation of the Apex Council with certain modifications.
  • Formations of various committees suggested by the Lodha Panel – special committee for the differently abled and the women’s committee.
  • Formation of players association and their representation in the committee.
  • Members unanimously gave voting rights to Associate members as per ICC guidelines.
  • Puducherry will be granted associate membership of the BCCI.
  • Agreed to implement Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials, Anti-Doping Code, Anti-Racism Code, Anti-Corruption Code and Operational Rules for the IPL next season.

The BCCI president Anurag Thakur after the SGM said that the members of the board have their own legal challenges and practical difficulties and therefore they have not accepted some of the recommendations.

A detailed report will be submitted in the Supreme Court and will be sent to the Lodha Committee on why the members have not accepted some of the recommendations.
