Western Union’s Response
Western Union later offered a statement, saying that they regretted the incident and that the matter was under investigation.
We are proud to serve Customers in more than 200 countries and we do consider the diversity of our Customers, our employees and our agents as an asset that we value and advocate.
The statement added that in cases of personal cross-border remittances, “regulators expect that the relationship between the sender and receiver is established prior to payout.”
Western Union added:
We are pleased that Ms Keech received her remittance at another agent location. We value the trust that she and other consumers place in Western Union.
