The Quint is reposting this article from its archives on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the day India officially won the Kargil War with Pakistan.
We live in troubled times. World War III may not have begun, but the world is at war. In these contentious times, only someone with great courage can advocate to end the hate; to put aside decades of conflict and work towards peace.
Especially if one has a personal stake in it, like Gurmehar Kaur. Gurmehar lost her father in the 1999 Kargil War at the age of 2. Her video, posted by Voice of Ram, is the story of her personal struggle with hate and her realisation that Pakistan didn’t kill her father; war did.
If she can do it, we can too.
