Mocking Trump Didn’t Save Spicer from Twitter Wrath in Emmys Cameo

One might think the left would appreciate the White House ex-press secretary’s about-face, but it’s just too soon.

Too soon for a comeback?

That’s what it looked like from the crowd’s reaction at the Emmy Awards as ex-White House press secretary Sean Spicer rolled his way on stage during comedian Stephen Colbert’s monologue poking fun at US President Trump. Scarcely two months after resigning from his old job as the US president’s mouthpiece, it seems the crowd wasn’t quite ready for a Spicer cameo.

From wide-eyed surprise, to incredulous laughter, to what seemed to be a politely-concealed cringe from Melissa McCarthy (Spicer’s Hollywood arch nemesis who famously played him on Saturday Night Live), the assembled celebrities seemed entertained, at least. Not as much can be said for Spicer, who seemed hopeful but uncomfortable as he glanced around with an uncertain smile.

This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmys, period. Both in person, and around the world.

One would think the mocking of US President Trump might garner appreciation from left-leaning Twitterati, but it appears the bitterness about Sean Spicer has yet to dissipate after his singularly disastrous stint at the White House. Many didn’t see the humour in him attempting to ‘cash in’ on the joke after ‘lying to the American people’.

It seems Sean Spicer is going to have a harder time reintegrating into wider society than he probably thought.
