Sakshi Malik won her second bout of the day as she beat Moldova’s Mariana Cherdivara in the pre-quarterfinal of women’s freestyle 58 kg. The scores were tied 5-5 at the end of regular time but Malik was handed the victory as she claimed more points in a single move.
Earlier, India’s freestyle wrestling campaign got off to the perfect start with as Malik won her 58 kg opener against Sweden’s Johanna Mattsson.
However, few minutes into the match and this wasn’t the outcome expected as the Swede took an easy 4-0 lead. Sakshi, though staged a complete turnaround as she won the next five points to win the opener 5-4.
