Ganesh Hansda hailed from a small village called Kosaphaliya in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand. Before leaving home, the 22-year-old had promised to help his family build a two-room brick house on his return. He joined the army in 2018 and was the sole breadwinner of his family.

His demise led the local administration to build a road in his village in order to transport his body, but his dream of building a house for his family remains unfulfilled. In an exchange of messages with a friend, Ganesh said, “I don't have a destination, life is very short. I am not even sure whether I will get the chance to see the sunrise tomorrow.”
