Son of a farmer, and the sole earner of his family, 28-year-old Chandrakanta had hailed from Bearipanga village in Kandhamal district of Odisha.

He joined the Indian Army in 2014 and was posted in Ladakh in February, right after he last visited home in December last year.

The eldest son of the family, Chandrakanta inspired his young brother to join the army.
