BJP Ally Sena Announces Support for NDA's Presidential Pick

A key ally of the ruling BJP, Shiv Sena ended the suspense on its support to NDA's presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind, saying it will back him.

The Shiv Sena announced this a day after its chief Uddhav Thackeray stated that Sena was not interested in backing Kovind if his candidature is aimed at garnering Dalit votes.

"After holding discussions with our party leaders, we have decided to back the NDA presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind. After our support, I do not think it will be difficult for the BJP to get him elected," Thackeray told reporters at his residence 'Matoshree' in suburban Bandra this evening.

West Bengal Guv Gets Additional Charge of Bihar

West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi will discharge the functions of the Governor of Bihar Kovind, in addition to his own duties, it said.

The presidential election, if required, will be held on 17 July.

Ram Nath Kovind Resigns as Bihar Governor

Following his nomination as NDA’s presidential candidate, Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind resigned from his post on Tuesday.

President Pranab Mukherjee has accepted the resignation of Kovind as the Governor of Bihar, a communique issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan said.
