J Jayalalithaa’s niece, Deepa Jayakumar, formally launched her platform 'Amma Deepa Peravai' on Friday, dispelling earlier news of her joining hands with former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam.
On being asked if her new platform is a political party, she responded:
It’s a federation at this moment, and I urge the youth to support. We will be taking part in the upcoming Tamil Nadu local body elections.
Earlier in the day, she announced that she will contest from her late aunt’s RK Nagar constituency, which fell vacant after her death.
Following Jayalalithaa’s death and Sasikala’s elevation to AIADMK chief, Deepa has seen her popularity soar among several AIADMK cadres and the public. Posters were put up in several parts of Chennai and Tamil Nadu hailing Deepa as Jayalalithaa’s true heir.
