Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav hit back at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘SCAM’ remark and said in a sly reference to the PM himself and BJP President Amit Shah,

We need to save the country from SCAM, especially from those whose names stand for A and M. We have to save the country from Amit Shah and Modi.

During his speech in a rally in Meerut, on Saturday, PM Modi took a shot at the BJP’s political opponents in UP, saying that ‘SCAM’ stood for ‘Samajwadi-Congress-Akhilesh-Mayawati.

Congress also hit back at Modi with the party’s spokesperson Tom Vadakkan saying:

Instead of delivering or telling us what the road map ahead is, we hear him (Modi) speak in abbreviations. He is extremely worried because he has realized what a faulty move demonetisation has been across the country. The Prime Minister is very keen to use English abbreviations and he used ‘SCAM’ to attack his political rivals. We will tell you what ‘SCAM’ means in Hindi - it is ‘satta bhogi, kapti dhongi Amit Shah Modi’.

BSP Chief Mayawati lashed out at Modi for his 'SCAM' comment, saying that it is indicative of his party's petty casteist mentality.

In a statement, Mayawati said:

It is unbecoming of a person, sitting on the post of Prime Minister, to take names of individuals for his political fight..it simply shows his petty casteist mentality. First of all, the Prime Minister should give a reply to the country about the scam behind his immature note ban decision which exposed people to immense hardships.
