Mounting a blistering attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the demonetisation drive he launched was a “firebombing of 99 percent of honest people” and is in no way a “surgical strike”.
Rahul said that demonetisation was akin to 200-300 aircraft firebombing cities during World War II,causing complete destruction within 25 minutes.
The Congress Vice President, however, did not speak about the “personal corruption of the PM” he had threatened to reveal recently.
The attack came within hours of Modi accusing the Congress of putting self-interest above the country and sought to paint it as a votary of corruption at a BJP Parliamentary Party meeting in Delhi.
Narendra Modi got up on 8 November and announced that the money which is in your pocket has now turned into mere paper. This not a surgical strike on black money but it is firebombing of the 99 percent of honest people of India.Rahul Gandhi, Vice President, Congress
Earlier, the Gandhi scion embarked on a ‘padyatra’ from Holy Spirit Church to Fatorda stadium in Goa’s Margao town.
The ‘padyatra' that began in North Goa's Pernem taluka on 29 November has covered 266 kms and 34 constituencies.
Gandhi's Fatorda rally in South Goa is the party’s first public event in the run-up to the 2017 state Legislative Assembly elections and is expected to be attended by around 10,000 people, sources said.
Congress has already announced that it will field candidates for all the 40 Assembly seats in the state.
