Jayalalithaa was on wrong medication for diabetes before she arrived at Chennai’s Apollo Hospital on 22 September, according to a leaked email allegedly sent by senior NDTV journalist Barkha Dutt to her colleagues.
The leaked email reveals that the now deceased Tamil Nadu Chief Minister had begun to make "decent improvement recovery" before the medication was started.
Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospital in September, where she stayed until her death on 5 December following a cardiac arrest.
There was a lot of secrecy maintained around the health of the AIADMK leader, with the hospital and her party hardly revealing very little details about her health.
“One of the Apollo Reddy sisters”
The subject line of the email specifies that the information on Jayalalithaa’s health is from a conference (call) with “one of the Apollo Reddy sisters”. The four Reddy sisters – Preetha, Suneeta, Sangeetha and Shobana – are part of the hospital along with their father Prathap C Reddy.
All the information in the leaked email was for internal use – and not to be revealed publicly.
Staff members at NDTV confirmed having received that email from Dutt, according to a Firstpost report. However, requests for a comment from the NDTV’s cofounder Prannoy Roy, Dutt and other senior journalists from the news channel went unanswered.
The Mystery Around Jayalalithaa’s Death
After a PIL was filed by a lawyer seeking a CBI probe into Jayalalithaa’s death, DMK leader MK Stalin has now urged the Centre to release a detailed report on the treatment provided to the late Chief Minister. He has also demanded that the state government release a white paper report on her demise to end rumours.
Several others are also beginning to raise questions regarding her death and the mystery surrounding it.

Following Jayalalithaa’s cardiac arrest on 4 December, all members of the AIADMK were called to Apollo Hospital to pledge their support to O Panneerselvam as Amma’s successor.
