In a surprise announcement on Tuesday evening, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes will be scrapped.

So, in our latest segment of Cab Mein Charcha with RJ Stutee, cabbies tell us what they think of the government’s "surgical strike on black money”.

Cabbies Talk on Ban

All hell broke loose when the move to curb black money was announced. Rj Stutee asked some cabbies about their reaction. From endless ATM queues and never-ending waits at petrol pumps and CNG gas stations, the cabbies braved it all. While some lauded PM Modi’s move as a “surgical strike”, others called it an inconvenience.

A War on Black Money or an Inconvenience?

Rajeev, who hails from Uttar Pradesh and earns his living by driving cabs in Delhi, was extremely stressed. One of his relatives met with an accident on the day of the announcement. With ATMs and banks closed, he was unable to transfer Rs 14,000 to his family in Kanpur.

A Populist Measure?

Is it a serious effort to control black money? Or it is just another populist move by the incumbent government? A cabbie compared this move to the AAP government’s odd-even scheme. Unlike ‘odd-even', he hopes this one works.
