Talking to the media in New Delhi, spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Vikas Swarup, said that India condemns expulsion of Indian High Commission staffer.

He told reporters that Pakistan did not give any justification about the same and this proves Pakistan's denial of its anti-India activities.

"We note with regret the Pakistan government's decision to declare Surjeet Singh persona non grata," Swarup said.

He said that it was an obvious after-thought following the apprehension of Pakistan HC staffer Akhtar in Delhi.

The Pakistani Foreign Secretary summoned the Indian High Commission on Thursday and conveyed that an employee from the Indian High Commission in Pakistan, Surjeet Singh, has been declared a persona non grata.

The Foreign Secretary alleged that Singh’s activities in Pakistan were in violation of the Vienna Convention and established diplomatic norms.

Singh has been asked to leave Pakistan by 29 October.

Earlier today, a staff from the Pakistani High Commission in India, Mehmood Akhtar, was declared a persona non grata. Akhtar was detained on espionage charges but has been let off due to his diplomatic immunity. He has been asked to leave India in 48 hours.
