The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have come out all guns blazing against Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s address at the UNGA, questioning the neighbouring country’s “complete denial” of terrorism that stems from its soil.

In his speech, Sharif attacked India over the Kashmir issue saying, “Kashmiris want freedom from India”.

He also invoked Hizbul Mujahideen Chief Burhan Wani’s name during the speech and called him a “young leader” whose life was cut short by the Indian forces. The Pakistani Prime Minister also demanded the release of all Kashmiri political prisoners from India. Additionally, he pitched Pakistan’s bid to the Nuclear Suppliers Group.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted in response to Nawaz Sharif’s speech, which he claimed “glorifies” slain Wani.

Swarup also accused Sharif of being in complete denial of the Uri attack, which resulted in the killing of 18 Indian soldiers on Sunday.

Ram Madhaav, a BJP member, told the reporters that Sharif’s speech at the UNGA has proved everything that India had been saying about him and the Pakistani government. “It is pathetic to see the Pakistani PM campaigning for one of his terror commanders – Burhan Wani”, he said.

Congress MP, AM Singhvi, also dismissed Sharif’s “ridiculous statements”. Singhvi called Pakistan the biggest exporter of terrorism in the world.

Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar asked to repeal the ‘most favoured nation’ status given to Pakistan and also retract the economic benefits from India.

United Kashmir People’s National Party member, Shaukat Ali Kashmiri, said that Nawaz Sharif should first think about the atrocities in PoK before making such statements.

Sashi Tharoor also disregarded Pakistan PM’s speech.

Nawaz Sharif has become more and more disappointing. The same man had welcomed PM (Modi) for his birthday and is now hailing Burhan Wani.

Sharif’s speech has confirmed that India doesn’t need to waste time talking to the “gentleman” (Pak PM) and rather needs to focus on different approaches to Pakistan.

Sharif’s remarks came days after the terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp in Jammu & Kashmir’s Uri.

Eighteen soldiers were martyred in the attack and several others were injured. Four terrorists were neutralised.
