Sacked Delhi minister Sandeep Kumar’s primary party membership in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was revoked on Saturday. The decision was taken after a scandal was caused when a sex-tape of the former minister from his college-days was leaked.

He was sacked from his office as the Women and Child Development Minister of Delhi after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received a CD with an ‘objectionable video’ of Sandeep Kumar.

In a video message by Kejriwal, which he released after the minister was removed from office, he asserted that he would prefer to die or dissolve the party rather than compromise with AAP’s principles, adding that the same rule will apply to him and all other senior leaders.

The Dalit community in Delhi on Saturday protested against the sacking of Sandeep Kumar, after he had claimed he was being targeted because he was a Dalit.

Kejriwal said although the turn of events and the fact that “such people” were in the party “saddened” him, he takes “pride” in the fact that AAP did not attempt to “cover up” the transgressions of its members.

The party is taking action. What Kumar has done is completely wrong and he has been suspended from primary membership of the party. The matter has been handed over to disciplinary committee and whatever its decision is, the party will abide by it.
