We also discuss our first impressions of the Matrix trilogy, 20 years after it altered the world of cinema. Indo-Pak Films in Bollywood
The last week has been all about the Indian Air Force air strikes in Balakot and subsequent retaliations from Pakistan, hitting a crescendo with the capture and release of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. With Indo-Pak tensions running high, it's a good time to explore how Hindi cinema has explored the various dynamics of India-Pakistan ties.
We have seen genres of war, thriller and romance when it comes to movies based on Indo-Pak relations, but are these films a genre unto themselves?
20 Years of Matrix
The Matrix was released on 31 March 1999 and cinema has never quite been the same since then. The trilogy’s elaborately choreographed action sequences literally changed the action-film industry.
The trilogy also popularised an editing style – called the “bullet time” – which was meant to visually ‘stop time’ for the audience.
Twenty years down the line, we discuss why this trilogy is a cult classic in the genre of sci-fi action films.
Spotify Comes to India, Finally
Spotify was released in India on 31 January even though the process wasn’t smooth. Their dispute with Warner/Chappelle Music means some of the top artists aren’t on the platform, but if something good can come of out an algorithm, then it’s Spotify. Tune in to listen to our impressions of the app.
