Then, come 2014, Modi visited the US after becoming the prime minister and the event at Madison Square garnered a crowd of 19,000. Cut to 2019 – the ‘Howdy, Modi’ rally was one of the biggest events ever for any foreign leader, attended by 50,000 people.
While in India, the employment rate as well as the GDP have dipped, there’s also been a fair bit of controversy about the BJP’s minority politics – none had an effect on PM Modi’s Houston rally on the first day of his seven-day-long visit.
