Sangam – the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati – witnessed the last holy dip of the Kumbh Mela on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri on Monday, 4 March.
Till Monday evening, more than 1 crore devotees had taken a holy dip in the Sangam area, officials cited by PTI said.
"Till evening, as many as 1.10 crore devotees have taken a dip in the Sangam area. With Maha Shivaratri's snaan, so far more than 24.05 crore devotees have taken a dip during this year's Kumbh," Kumbh Mela Adhikari Vijay Kiran Anand told PTI.
Till 3 March, the number of devotees who had taken the dip during the Kumbh stood at 22.95 crore, a UP government official said.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister JP Nadda and Deputy Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Varma also took the holy dip at the mela on the occasion of Maha Shivaratri.
PM Modi and President Ram Nath Kovind took to Twitter to send Maha Shivaratri greetings. Film and TV personalities also wished their followers on the auspicious day.
