Mumbai is best photographed in monochrome.
Of course, this is a personal opinion with my limited knowledge of photography, but more often than not, I’ve realised that capturing this city in colour often leads to very busy images. Too much colour, too much movement, too much chaos, and when all this is captured through a mobile device on the go, the eye revolts. At least, mine does. So here’s the conclusion I came to: let’s go back to the basics.
I chose black and white (a billion shades of grey) – the classic form of documentation for a city with thousands of frames – all in an attempt to segregate the moment from the madness. Here are a few glimpses.
