Large areas in the villages of Jhalokathi and Swaprukathi have huge guava gardens. Guavas from these gardens are then carried to floating guava markets. Owing to the reduced vibrations of water as a transport medium, guavas are prone to minimum physical damage.
Massive bulks of guavas are bought from these markets and distributed all over the country. Most of the guavas seen in Bangladesh comes from the villages of Jhalokathi, Swarupkathi and Pirojpur.
These three villages are situated in Barisal division of souther Bangladesh.
Monsoon is the most important season for the cultivation of the fruit which is then picked between July to September.
Guavas are sold for a price of 5 to 10 taka to buyers. This is very low when compared to the price of guavas sold in the cities.
