It’s been a year of Deep-Veer. The wedding happened. The designer of the clothes moved on to his next brides, Priyanka Chopra and Isha Ambani. A year after the famed nuptials, let’s see if Deepika has changed her style, and how Ranveer and she influenced each other’s personal style.
This weekend I read an article in the Financial Times’ Life and Arts section that in the milieu of so many dating apps, less people are having sex and getting married than our grandparents’ generation! So to start off with the coming together of two superstars from reel life at least gives real life romantic goals to a generation that does not have much patience with the ‘baggage’ that love brings with it!
Case in point, we all admired the beautiful finery from Sabyasachi and Angadi Galleria in Bangalore, that was worn by Deepika and Ranveer Singh during their nuptials in Italy. But scratch the surface and you realise that they had two wedding ceremonies – Anand Karaj and a Konkani style wedding. Deepika is Konkani and her groom is a loud and proud Sindhi. Deep-Veer embraced each other’s cultural differences, while the young millennials in a world full of apps and options finds being accommodating a task, and ‘swipes left’.
Bold To Bolder
Two successful people can get married.
The signs of a successful power couple is when they have matching airport looks or share a certain print as far as their public appearances are concerned. They also tend to rub off on each other. According to Edward Lalrempuia, ‘’Deepika is experimenting much more than she used to. For instance, the Giambatttista Valli gown at the Cannes Film Festival this year is an outfit she may not have experimented with two years ago. She is bolder with her fashion choices and that may be Ranveer’s influence.’
We witnessed her bold fashion choices at the Met Gala and the Filmfare awards too!
Marriage has empowered her fashion choices and her film career, as she takes on the role of co-producer for the film ‘Chhappak’, besides being an actress.
Sense of Self
Who says after marriage a girl needs to leave her home and move into her groom’s castle? Ranveer Singh is very inspiring to the modern, millenial Indian men as he confidently set his base at Deepika’s apartment. This requires a certain sense of self that perhaps he gets from his high spirituality quotient. Ranveer is apparently a fan of The Mul Mantra, the words first spoken by Guru Nanak Ji. This mantra has the power to change one’s destiny. In his interview to the November 2019 edition of Vogue India, Singh says, ‘After hair and makeup, I get down on my knees in my (vanity) van and pray. I am not religious. But I believe in some kind of higher power. And I just say a prayer of gratitude.’
Singh is not alone. On Instagram alone there are about 20.4 million posts with #gratitude
‘Shouldn’t You Have Asked Me Before Emptying My Bottle of Bronzer on Your Chest?’: Deepika to Ranveer
In this day of social media – in a marriage – you need to support your partner through the thick, the thin and the trolls. You, me and their combined 69 million followers would have noticed the camaraderie the couple shares on social media and that best defines modern age romance, and who better than the millenials to understand that. Criticism, wit, humour, understanding, compassion, empathy – the perfect cocktail that would help one to be ‘on fleek’ online.
Borrowing Personality Traits
Deepika’s key style is simple and stoic – off duty she is often seen in white kurtas/shirts and jeans! Kolhapuri and sneakers are her go to footwear. She is warm, kind and humane. I remember once for a makeover show, we took a fan girl to a location where ELLE MAGAZINE was shooting the cover with her. Deepika gave the girl a super warm hug and so much love that the fan girl was overcome with emotions and started crying and as the presenter, I was blown away. She is someone who is true to herself and that’s something that her husband who is famous for his outlandish fashion choices seems to borrow. We know one part of his persona that’s reflected through his clothes but in his recent interviews there is a sense of seriousness that he is expressing, I reckon on the advise of his wife!
The Who’s Who
Deepika’s fashion statements can be seen all over instagram and the best shots can be found through the Instagram account of her stylist Shaleena Nathani who has 433K followers and is a digital influencer.
To end this piece, I go through her account and realise that some pictures really require me to zoom in as I am confused if the long shot is of the stylist or Deepika’s.
According to Deloitte’s 2019 global millennial survey, there has been a marked deterioration of optimism among millennials and Gen Z and a growth in both macroeconomic and daily anxieties. Well, the images of Deep-Veer at least create optimism in the lives of the young and free!
