As the Obamas are set to leave White House in January, First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an exit interview, which aired on Monday night.

The two have been friends for a long time now and Oprah is a supporter of President Barack Obama.

Talking about wide-ranging issues, Michelle answered Oprah’s questions on the eight years her family spent in the White House, their hopes, and their regrets.

When asked if she would ever run for President, Obama answered with a firm ‘no’. She said that the weight of presidency is too much for a family, and staying in that position for another 8 years is something she would never do to her kids.

She added that:

If i was interested (in running for office), I would say it directly. I don’t believe in playing games.

Hitting out at President-elect Donald Trump, she said that people may be calling for her run for President maybe because they regret this election.

Following Trump getting elected, she said that Americans now know “what not having hope feels like.”

Michelle had a message for young girls, saying that they should never underestimate themselves.

We as women don’t pat ourselves on the backs... what’s in your brain is useful. Don’t hide it. Don’t dumb it down. Don’t apologise for it.

When asked if they have any regrets after eight years in office, she said that one thing the Obama administration wishes is that they could have done something about gun violence.

In the hour-long interview, Michelle Obama was her inspiring and charming self. The interview embodied everything she has stood for in these eight years and was a fitting way to sign off.
