Sarah Sanders, the White House press secretary, on Saturday, 23 June, tweeted that she was thrown out of a restaurant in Virginia because she works for US President Donald Trump.

“Last night I was told by the owner of Red Hen in Lexington, VA to leave because I work for @POTUS and I politely left,” Sanders said on the official Press Secretary Twitter account.

On Saturday, the owner of the Red Hen, Stephanie Wilkinson, confirmed the incident and said she stood by her decision to refuse service to Sanders, the Washington Post reported.

“We just felt there are moments in time when people need to live their convictions,” she told the newspaper.

According to The Guardian, Wilkinson said: “I was babbling a little, but I got my point across in a polite and direct fashion, and explained that the restaurant has certain standards that I feel it has to uphold, such as honesty and compassion and cooperation.”

Following Wilkinson’s request, Trump’s Press Secretary walked out of the restaurant and others at her table followed suit.

Even though the deprived party offered to pay for what they had ordered already, Wilkinson told them it was complimentary, the report added.

Sanders isn’t the only member of the Trump administration who had to face flak from the American people, after news broke that it was separating 2,300 children from their parents at southern borders.

Earlier this week, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was confronted by protesters at a Mexican restaurant in Washington, DC.

Protesters yelled “Shame! Shame!” and it came as the Trump administration defended its hard line immigration policy at the US-Mexico border. Nielsen too, had decided to leave the restaurant.

Twitter Reacts

As Sarah Sanders tweeted about the incident, Twitterati got the perfect opportunity to voice their opinions on the incident.

While some stood by her and offered her sympathy, a majority of them were more than happy with what happened.
