Republic party candidate running for President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, on Tuesday, asked a group of people who believe in zero gun control to ‘do something’ about Hillary Clinton. Speaking at an event in North Carolina, Trump wondered if the “second amendment people” could stop Clinton from choosing the next judges in the country.
The second amendment to the US Constitution allowed its citizens to own and carry firearms. Trump’s comment, considered to be vile by many, has managed to turn necks – including the important ones this time.
Even Trump has backtracked on his comments and tried to present it as vote appeal to supporters of the second amendment.
Listen to Trump’s comments, which can easily be perceived as a threat to assassinate Hillary Clinton at 00:50.
Hillary Clinton Camp Shocked
Hillary Clinton’s media manager Robby Mook released the following statement after Trump’s comment:
This is simple – what Trump is saying is dangerous. A person seeking to be the President of the United States should not suggest violence in any way.
Democratic Vice Presidential candidate Tim Kaine expressed shock over Trump’s statement, reports the Washington Examiner.
I saw it reported and when I read the quote I really frankly couldn’t believe he said it, and so I went to watch the video of it and found that he had said it exactly the way it was printed.Tim Kaine, Vice Presidential Candidate
Trump Upsets Leaders, Draws Secret Service’s Attention
Martin Luther King Junior’s youngest daughter Kyra LeMoyne Kennedy tweeted against Trump’s comment, calling it “distasteful, disturbing and dangerous”.
Besides Kennedy’s daughter, world chess champion and Russian opposition leader Garry Kasparov took to Twitter to react to Donald Trump’s comment.
Putin’s followers often “joke” about opposition leaders being killed. Posters with crosshairs, etc. Then they are murdered and it is no joke. Trump joking about someone shooting Hillary is sick and dangerous. It is how unbalanced people are inspired to murder. It trivializes violence. When a Putin regime critic or opposition member is murdered, Westerners say “Putin wouldn’t do that! It makes him look bad!” As if he cares. It is not about giving the order to murder. Creating the culture of violence, hatred, and impunity is enough. Killing without consequences. That is why you cannot take these things lightly at all. The normalisation of violent rhetoric inevitably leads to violence.
Not just Kasparov, closer to home for the US, the country’s Secret Service also appears to have taken note of the comments made by Trump. The agency tweeted the following after Trump’s speech.
Media’s Clarion Call to US Voters
The New York Daily News did not mince words while headlining the article on Trump’s speech.
The Guardian published an opinion piece on the topic, calling Trump’s comment a murder threat to Clinton.
