Malaysia has launched its first Shariah-compliant airline Rayani Air which began services from Sunday.

The maiden flight was from Kuala Lumpur International Airport to the airline’s home base in Langkawi.

Jaafar Zamhari, Managing Director of Rayani Air, said that the airline will serve only halal food and will not serve alcohol.

It is compulsory for our Muslim women cabin crew to wear hijab and for non-Muslims to wear a decent uniform. We also recite doa (prayers) before the departure of each flight. We have a ‘no-alcohol’ policy, and we provide food and beverages that are halal.

This airline is the fourth to join the trend: Royal Brunei Airlines, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Iran Air are also shariah-compliant.
