Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister appointed an Indo-Canadian woman, Bardish Chagger as the leader of the Government in the House of Commons. She has become the first woman in the post, reported the Hindustan Times.

Chagger was the first Indo-Canadian woman to be inducted into the cabinet when she became the minister for small business and tourism. The move comes as a promotion for the first time MP from Ontario.

She is succeeding Dominic LeBlanc who also currently holds office as minister of fisheries, oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard. Trudeau said she would prove to be a worthy successor to LeBlanc.

With the new office, she will face the added responsibility of furthering Trudeau’s agenda with the Opposition. Chagger was also indicative of opting for a more cooperative stance.

I really do believe that we can all work together.
Bardish Chagger
