Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin announced she is separating from husband Anthony Weiner, former congressman from New York, after a report revealed that he again exchanged sexual messages with another woman.
Abedin is the vice chair of Clinton’s presidential campaign and served as her deputy chief of staff at the US State Department.
Abedin says in a statement released by Clinton’s presidential campaign:
After long and painful consideration and work on my marriage, I have made the decision to separate from my husband. Anthony and I remain devoted to doing what is best for our son, who is the light of our life. During this difficult time, I ask for respect for our privacy.
The announcement came after the New York Post published pictures and messages late Sunday night exchanged by the ex-congressman with a “40-something divorcee”. It carried a revealing photo of Weiner in his underwear with his son lying beside him.
This is not the first time the former congressman has been reported to have sent sexually-explicit photos and messages to women he met online.
Weiner resigned from Congress in 2011 after being caught in a similar scandal. He was again found to be doing the same during his 2013 race for New York City mayor.
