After being formally inducted, President Donald Trump directed his government to take steps to dismantle one of his predecessor Barack Obama’s signature laws – Obamacare.

Shortly after heading into the Oval Office, Trump signed an order urging government departments to “waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay the implementation” of provisions in Obamacare that imposed fiscal burdens on states, companies or individuals, Live Mint reported.

Although the White House did not reveal details on the executive order, health experts speculated that Trump would reduce the essential benefits of maternity benefits or mental health service that the mandatory insurance plan is supposed to cover.

President Donald Trump, and Vice-President Mike Pence were sworn into their official posts on 20 January.

Throughout his campaign period, President Trump had vehemently vowed to repeal Obamacare and replace it with “something terrific”.
