Three people were injured in an early-morning fire at the top of Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan, the New York Fire Department said on 8 January, as the city's workday rush began. The tower is the erstwhile home of US President Donald Trump, and also houses other residences, offices and stores.

One firefighter was hospitalised with non life-threatening injuries, while two people received minor injuries that were treated at the scene, including a building worker whose injury was initially described as serious, the Fire Department said.

The electrical fire was doused within minutes, Eric Trump tweeted.

More than 90 minutes after the initial report, 84 firefighters and 26 units were still on the scene, according to department spokesman Ken Reilly. The Fire Department said the fire was not inside the building, but on top of it. "We had flames coming out of the vents. No smoke condition or fire was on the inside," Manhattan Borough Commander Assistant Chief Roger Sakowich said on Twitter.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and is under investigation. The results of the fire will be released once the investigation is complete, the spokesperson for the Fire Department Jim Long said.
