Paul Manafort resigned from the campaign of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on Friday, days after he was effectively demoted in a shake-up of the campaign leadership.
This morning Paul Manafort offered, and I accepted, his resignation from the campaign. I am very appreciative for his great work in helping to get us where we are today, and in particular his work guiding us through the delegate and convention process. The Washington Post reported that Manafort left on “good terms” and that he “will remain an ally and outside confidant of the campaign.”
Manafort’s exit was expected after the campaign’s staff was reshuffled earlier this week. As decided after the rejig, Breitbart News’s Stephen K Bannon was named the chief executive and GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway assumed the role of campaign manager.
