Tuesday marked the US Army’s 241st birthday. Trump addressed a rally on the occasion, where he seemingly accused US war veterans of stealing funds from the American government.
Calling Iraq, “crooked as hell”, Trump said:
How about bringing baskets of money – millions and millions of dollars – and handing it out? I want to know who were the soldiers that had that job, because I think they’re living very well right now, whoever they may be.Donald Trump

The campaign spokeswoman Hope Hicks later said that Trump did not refer to theft by Americans, adding, “Mr Trump was referring to Iraqi soldiers.”
The previous mention of American soldiers was made by Trump during a rally in 2015. There too the Republican candidate seemed to suggest that the soldiers had stolen money from the US government, both in Iraq and Afghanistan, points out Politico.
The remarks on Tuesday were made in Greensboro, North Carolina, a mere 90 miles away from one of the largest and best-known US Army bases.
