Posts by the Humans of New York (HONY), a photo blog started by American photographer Brandon Stanton, often tell diverse stories of people from New York and around the world.

HONY has inspired many by sharing stories of soldiers, school children, refugees and more.

Having recently travelled to Jordan and Turkey, Brandon interviewed twelve Syrian refugee families who were moving to the US.

These families have just reached the finish line of a multi-year screening process, and it was quite an emotional experience to meet with them at this juncture. The life of a refugee in America is by no means easy. But for these families, their resettlement has finally brought the possibility of an end to years of intense hardship.

His recent story about a scientist who is a refugee caught the attention of many, especially one very powerful man – the President of the United States, Barack Obama.

Obama sympathised with the unnamed refugee, who has said he just wants to be a real person again.
