Democratic lawmaker Al Green has said he will force a vote on articles of impeachment against US President Donald Trump by next week, The Washington Post reported on Monday, 15 July.

"I'm here today to tell you I intend again to bring articles of impeachment to the floor of the house of Representatives. I will do so by the end of this month," Green said in a press conference on Monday, a video link of which he later posted on social media.

“Before the end of this month there will be another vote on the floor of the House of Representatives to impeach this president, who has demonstrated clearly that he is unfit to hold the office, “ Green added.

Incidentally, Green had forced two procedural votes in December 2017 and January 2018 on impeaching Trump when Republicans controlled Congress, and they were both easily defeated 364-58 and 355-66.

Green said Monday that he decided to move forward with another impeachment resolution because things "came to a boiling point," citing the President's tweets on Sunday as well as the immigration raids and other issues.

His effort comes just as the House prepares to hear from Mueller himself during two high-profile hearings scheduled for 24 July that many impeachment backers have suggested could reignite a stalled effort to seek Trump’s ouster.

Green's newest attempt at impeachment is expected to face pushback from Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who has argued that the House must still investigate Trump further before taking that dramatic step.
