The Police have reported that seven people have been shot at an off-campus party near Ball State University in Indiana.

Muncie Police Chief Joe Winkle told WXIN-TV that three people are in critical condition after the shooting that took place early on Saturday. Winkle said that some of the victims are Ball State students.

He added that one was airlifted to a hospital in Indianapolis, about 50 miles (80 kilometers) southwest of Muncie.

Winkle said that it appears that the shooting happened after "some kind of confrontation inside the house." About 50 to 75 people were in the house at the time, he added.

There was no immediate confirmation of any arrests.

Ball State issued a campus alert shortly after the shootings warning members of the university community to stay clear of the area.
