TRUE OR FALSE?

The Quint confirmed that the video has been shared with a false claim. The child in the video isn’t the son of an Army officer who lost his life in an operation against militants and is, instead, a child artist based out of Pakistan named Ghulam Murtaza. In the video, he is singing to pay homage to the 2014 Peshawar school massacre.

On 16 December 2014, six terrorists attacked Army Public School in Peshawar. The militants entered the school and opened fire on the school staff and the students, killing 149 people, including 132 students.

WHAT WE FOUND

On conducting a reverse image search, we were directed to several uploads on YouTube which hinted that the video is from Pakistan.

Taking cues from there, we carried out a Google search using the key words ‘Baba Mere Pyaare Baba’ (title of the song) and ‘Pakistani child artist’. This led us to a similar video uploaded by several Pakistani media outlets including Dunya News.

The video was uploaded on 15 December 2015.

An upload by another YouTube channel suggested the lyrics were penned by Pakistani singer Nadeem Abbas. Further probe revealed that the child in the video is Nadeem Abbas’s son, Ghulam Murtaza.
