THE CLAIM

A Facebook post showing what appears to be an Indian Army soldier holding an old man with yellow plastic bags wrapped around his body has gone viral.

It claims that the man is a suicide bomber who was caught by the Indian Army.

The post was shared with the text: “कब्र में जाने की उम्र में ये आतंकी 72 हूर पाने की तमन्ना लिए भीड़ में बम-ब्लास्ट करने के लिए जा ही रहा था कि सेना ने इसे पकड़ लिया। इनके सोच को गहराई से समझने की परमावश्यकता है (With one foot in the grave, this terrorist was about to detonate a bomb in a crowded area to fulfill his desire of finding 72 virgins. There is a need to understand their mindset).”

TRUTH OR FALSE?

A reverse search of the image from the post led to a Buzzfeed article, busting another fake news about this post.

From the report it’s clear that the man in the image is carrying drugs (hashish) and not explosives, as is stated in this original tweet:

Torkham, the place mentioned in the tweet, is one of the main points of passage of drugs between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The story was also debunked by AltNews, which reported that the same viral image was also shared in 2014 with an altered claim that the man was an Islamic State terrorist.
