With less than ten days to go for the Rajasthan Assembly elections, there’s no wonder that misleading social media posts are doing the rounds online.

CLAIM

A video of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is doing rounds, in which she can be heard saying, “जितनी ग़रीबी हम करेंगे उतना ही हमको फ़ायदा मिलेगा, उतने ही वोट हमको मिलेंगे क्योंकि लोगों को समय नहीं मिलेगा हमसे पूछने का कि हमको नौकरी क्यों नहीं मिली, हमको पानी क्यों नहीं मिला, हमारे यहाँ सड़क क्यों नहीं बनी क्योंकि वो अपने दुख में इतने घुटे हुए होंगे |”

(The more we spread poverty, the more we will benefit and the more votes we will get, because people won't have the time ask why they are not getting jobs, water and roads. They will be too busy dealing with their pain.)

TRUE OR FALSE

The clipping has been cut out of Raje’s full speech, thus, quoting the chief minister out of context.

WHAT WE FOUND?

The Quint got access to the full speech and found out what Raje had said, “आपको मालूम होगा कि भारतीय जनता पार्टी ने ग़रीबी हटाने का वाक़ई में काम किया है | ये जो दूसरी कांग्रेस पार्टी है, वो ग़रीबी हटाओ का नारा 50 साल से देते आ रही है | आज तक इन्होंने कोई ग़रीबी मिटाने का काम नहीं किया है | और जब इनसे पूछो तो कहते हैं कि ग़रीबी को मिटाना नहीं हैं |

(As you know, the Congress has been raising the slogan 'eradicate poverty' for the last 50 years. But they have done nothing to eradicate poverty. When you ask them, they say they don’t want to eradicate poverty. [Congress thinks ] The more we [they] spread poverty, the more we will benefit because people won't have time to ask why they are not getting jobs, water and roads. They will just be too busy dealing with their pain).

in the video, from 12 min 20 sec mark, Raje can be heard saying that Congress did nothing in 50 years to eradicate poverty.
