CLAIM
In the context of the rising fuel prices, many people shared a picture on social media of what appears to be a petrol bill taking a dig at the Narendra Modi government.
At the bottom of the bill, the memo line reads: “If you want to reduce petrol price don’t vote Modi again. Thank you visit again!”
TRUE OR FALSE?
False. As pointed out by SMHoaxSlayer, a closer look at the bill reveals several flaws in it. These include:
- Different-sized fonts used in the date '04/10/2018' and the time '10:17'
- In the bill number, the numbers '1345' have a thicker font than the 0s.
- The amount '87.88' is also seen in different fonts and shades at different places in the bill.
- Lastly, the controversial sentence printed at the bottom has a different font and its alignment is also not in place.
Moreover, no petrol pump of the given name exists in the given locality, SM Hoaxslayer found out.
In fact, the fake image of the petrol bill was created from a sample template available to manufactuerers/suppliers/traders of POS billing machines.
